  • Former Residence of Tadae Eikichi

The former residence of Tadae Eikichi is located half way up Puding Mountain. The residence faces south, has a mountain slope behind and steep embankment in front of it. The residence holds the high ground in which it can overlook the beautiful sceneries of the banks of the Tamsui River and Mount Guanyin. The location of the residence was originally a scholar's farmland of the Hsueh Hai Academy back in the Qing Dynasty and its present address is No.19, Maxie Street. It is located near Tamsui Library, the Little White House and Wenhua Elementary School.

This residence was built with Formosan cypress. The rain boards on its outer walls, the black tiles on its roof and the parallel built ceiling was still preserved. It is also one of the first private residences to be connected to tap water in the Tamsui area. This not only has epoch-marking meaning for the tap water development of Taiwan at the time, it is also one of the most historical values of this residence. The former Residence of Tadae Eikichi has been announced as a historical site on April 2005 and is now a designated historical site of New Taipei City.

  • Tamsui Customs Officer's Residence ( Little White House )

“Tamsui Customs Officer’s Residence”, also known as the Little White House has over a hundred years of history. It is named after the eye-catching white western style building exterior. The well-lined “half dome archway” is a must see. When the sunlight pours on the building, the white exterior appears even cleaner and more graceful. This piece of Spanish corridor style architecture of simple white plaster is vastly popular among the youth for photo shoots and “wedding photography”.

The entire architecture is bathed in white with an orange roof top which is eye-catching under the blue sky. With its domed corridor design, much romantic appeal is added to the Little White House.

  • Cloud Gate Theater

The “Cloud Gate Theatre” is the rehearsal and performance grounds of the internationally renowned “Cloud Gate Dance Company” of Taiwan. Besides enjoying shows, periodic park introduction service is offered. In addition, there are many stunning installation arts, such as the world-renowned works of “Nativist”, “Taichi” and “Living World” series by Master Sculptor Ju Ming. The Tree House bookstore in the park sells books and coffee, and one could purchase books and choose from cultural arts products featuring a dancer’s way of life developed uniquely by Cloud Gate or taste the restaurants’ signature hand-dripped coffee or exclusively brewed sunlight beer. If feeling hungry, try the delicious “Taiwan xiaolongbao” and the “world no.1 oolong milk tea with tapioca” at the Whisper of Flowers restaurant beside the lily pond, and while away an afternoon in artistry and leisure.

The Cloud Gate Theatre main building is remarkable, with light green glass curtains reflecting the tall surrounding trees. It is not only tasteful but also eco-friendly. Suggest including both the green saturated windows along with the blue sky in picture.

  • Fort San Domingo

The “Fort San Domingo Park Area” has been standing in Tamsui for over three hundred years, and is listed as a Level One Ancient Monument. It is comprised of architectures from colonial Dutch and Spain, the Qing rule to the Japanese period. There are two major buildings: the square “Anthony Castle” built by the Dutch in 1644, and the “English Consulate” constructed by the British after taking over. Don’t forget to gaze out at Tamsui river and Guanyin mountain. One of the eight wonders of Tamsui is the “sunset of beacon tower” located here. The glow of the sunset is not to be missed.

  • The Hobe Fort

After the Sino-French War between 1884- 1885, Liu Ming-Chuan, the first Qing governor of Taiwan, hired German technician Max E. Hecht to supervise the construction of this fort in order to defend Taiwan's naval defense in 1886 and Liu Ming Chuan personally inscribed the “The Key to the North Gate” on the lintel of the fort gate.
In 1985, the Taipei County Government declared The Hobe Fort a Grade II historical site.

  • Tamsui Chapel

A fter Dr. Mackay arrived in Tamsui, he began missionary work and Tamsui became the origin of Presbyterian Church in Northern Taiwan. The church has a Gothic feel to it, with the glazed windows, bell tower, pointed arches and spires. The brickwork is exceptional, too. Since it was established in 1933, there has not been any dilapidation, and it is still a place where people go for service. Every Christmas, the church is greatly decorated, and visitors come and take pictures.

  • Tamsui Old Street

Tamsui Old Street is divided into the inner and outer side. The outer street is the golden anchor walkway of Tamsui river coast, while the inner side is a traditional old street lined with bustling shops. There are faithfully traditional pastry shops, groceries and stores selling trendy outfits and toys. The popular foods in the area include A Gei, fish ball, fried fish crackers, traditionally baked cake, Granny’s iron eggs, etc. are all must try goodies. In the evening, the beautiful scenery of the sun setting below the ocean horizon can be seen along the golden anchor walkway.

“Traditionally Baked Cake” is made with fresh milk. The rich egg pancake aroma wafts from the oven when taken out. It may look plain in appearance, but the silky texture is unforgettable. It is a local souvenir not to be missed and an extremely popular cuisine in Tamsui with a long waiting line.

The must try local snack “A-Gei” is transliterated partly from the Japanese word of “Oiled Tofu”. Prepared by emptying the center of the Tofu, adding fried clear noodles and soaking in marinade, then sealed off with fish mince and steamed. Sweet sour sauce or secret recipe of the store is poured on top before serving.

  • Heping Park

The area around the Peace Park is the ancient battlefield of the Qing-French War in 1884. It is named "Peace Park" to commemorate the soldiers and civilians on the battlefield and pray for peace.
The park as a whole has a Japanese garden style. Walking along the green avenue next to the FABHotel, you will find many frog statues hidden in the park. The little frog "Brown" comes from the fable "Brown fell from the tree" by Mr. Tsutomu Mizukami, a Japanese writer.

  • Tamsui Itteki Memorial House

The One Drop of Water Memorial Hall in the Peace Park was originally a century-old wooden house built in Oi-cho, Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
Later, it was relocated to the current location, and the characteristics of Japanese architecture came into view directly through the tunnel of time and space.
It only takes 7 minutes to walk up from the Huwei Art and Leisure Park.Similar to the meaning of the name of the One Drop of Water Memorial Hall, the Huwei Art and Leisure Park also cherishes and makes good use of all resources.
Every little drop of water gathers to form a river and sea. This is a diamond-level green building.
